A meme for Valentine's Day. Sort of.

In the comments section, name a fandom you know I know and I'll tell you:

01. The first character I first fell in love with
02. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now
03. The character everyone else loves that I don't
04. The character I love that everyone else hates
05. The character I used to love but don't any longer
06. The character I would glomp anytime
07. The character I'd want to be like
08. The character I'd slap
09. A pairing that I love
10. A pairing that I despise

But in order for me to answer these I have to have comments (check my profile page for my fandoms)! Also, anyone else who wants to take this is free to do so. *nods*

Does "David Copperfield" count as a fandom? :-) If so, I pick that one!

I choose "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" for you to do. ;)

Oh dear, I can only do one right now! I'll do Demimajerrie's first:

CATC 2005:
01. The first character I first fell in love with - Willy Wonka, of course! Extremely hilarious and loveable despite the fact that's he's a total oddball. I also kind of feel sorry for him. :(

02. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Um, probably Charlie Bucket. I expected him to be a tad too angsty, but he had a bit of redeemable pluck!

03. The character everyone else loves that I don't: Maybe Violet Beauregarde. She seems to have a lot of fans, but I'm certainly not one of them. She's rather annoying.

04. The character I love that everyone else hates: N/A, though I do like Grandpa Joe and I doubt that most people really ever think of him.

05. The character I used to love but don't any longer: Used to think Mike Teavee was funny, but now...not so much.

06. The character I would glomp anytime: Wonka, duh. I think he'd coil back in horror, though.

07. The character I'd want to be like: Charlie. He keeps on hoping even when things get hard, and he's sweet enough to share his birthday candy with everyone.

08. The character I'd slap: Veruca Salt, if I were her age

09. A pairing that I love: I really like Charlie's parents together - they interact wonderfully!

10. A pairing that I despise: Do you know people actually like Wonka/Charlie? Gross!!

Time for the DC one, now!

01. The first character I first fell in love with: actually, it's not the one you'd think, but Peggotty (though it's maybe because she came in the novel first). She was just so awesome and faithful, like a bright light in the middle of the house of Murdstone. Wonderful!

02. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Aunt Betsey. My first impression of her wasn't favorable because she seemed mean, and then later I was indifferent. But upon watching the adaptations and rereading parts of the book, she's really very human and very funny! (She reminds me of someone I know, too...)

03. The character everyone else loves that I don't: Dora. I don't actively loathe her, but I don't get why critics are always talking how cute she is. She's just spoilt. I also don't like Micawber much.

04. The character I love that everyone else hates: Well I don't "love" his character, but I like reading the portions with Uriah Heep, and I think that's pretty odd. He's a GREAT villain, and a lot of the time he's really funny, in a morbid sort of way. He's in some of my favorite parts of the book.

05. The character I used to love but don't any longer: none of them, really.

06. The character I would glomp anytime: Traddles! He's so sweet!

07. The character I'd want to be like: Well Agnes, duh. I wouldn't want to live her life (because really, she has a pretty crummy one), but I'd like to have her strength and elegance.

08. The character I'd slap: Ugh, Steerforth! I hear some people really like him, but IMHO, he's just a jerk. He can have everything he wants and he STILL ruins people!

09. A pairing that I love: David and Agnes, of course. ^_^ I also am a Betsey/Dick shipper, lol.

10. A pairing that I despise: Steerforth/David, which some folks advocate. No thank you.

01. The first character I first fell in love with: probably Mortimer Lightwood - I thought he was a nice guy and pretty interesting, though he doesn't have a huge role in the book. :)

02. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: I like Jenny Wren more than I did when I first read the book. :)

03. The character everyone else loves that I don't: Eugene. Sorry, I do agree he's funny but I don't think he's attractive at all!

04. The character I love that everyone else hates: As in my DC post, I don't "love" his character, but I love reading about Bradley Headstone's madness, whereas most folks just see him as another villain, I think.

05. The character I used to love but don't any longer: Um, I've kind of gotten bored with Lizzie Hexam. She's still one of my favorite Dickens characters, but she's at the bottom of the list now.

06. The character I would glomp anytime: John Rokesmith! He's a very intelligent chap...

07. The character I'd want to be like: I guess Mr. Boffin, actually, though that's not a very glamorous choice. He's a really great person!

08. The character I'd slap: Fascination Fledgby, the weasel (though he's kind of funny, too...).

09. A pairing that I love: I like John/Bella, which is odd because I usually don't like the "I hate you-I love you" romances. They just seem so sweet together by the end! Also Sloppy/Jenny, haha.

10. A pairing that I despise: I'm not too keen on Lizzie/Eugene. I'm glad Lizzie got what she wanted - but she got a rather lazy gentleman who only loves her now that he's half dead.

Ooh, I'd want to slap Fledgby, too.
What in the cuckoo's name does "glomp" mean?

Nibs said...

"Glomp" comes from the Japanese anime/manga craze - it's a made up word for "to give a HUGE bear hug!" :p

Christy said...

Ah. In that case, I'd glomp either of the Boffins or poor, dear Mrs. Whatshername who ran away from Sloppy so he could have a better life.

I was wondering about "glomp" myself, though there's something about the word that sort of hints what it means. :-) I'd like to glomp Traddles too!
